The Majestic Town of Dildo

This is a majestic town in Newfoundland, but it’s not actually Dildo. I’m not about to spend a lot of time on Google looking for Dildo pics.

On This Day

1923: The Hollywood Sign was dedicated. Originally the sign read, “Hollywoodland” but “land” was dropped in 1949. The Hollywood Sign was meant to be a temporary advertisement for a new housing development and anticipated to be up for only a year and a half. But, thanks to the rise of the film industry, the sign became widely recognised, and stayed.

In August 2019 Jimmy Kimmel gifted a parody “Hollywood” sign to the small town of Dildo, Newfoundland.

After the sign was erected, town officials had to post signs deterring people from trespassing on private property to take pictures with the sign.

From everything I can tell, Dildo is a charming town and was founded in the late 18th century as a fishing village.

There have been several campaigns to change the name; all of which failed.

Also on this day…

1930: The first-ever World Cup took place in Uruguay. Only 13 nations participated in this event compared to the 2018 World Cup in which 32 nations participated. In 1930, Uruguay defeated Argentina and became the first nation to win the World Cup.

Morning Jam

Sam and the Womp just seemed appropriate for today’s issue. If you’re unfamiliar, Sam and the Womp is like drum n’ bass meets Balkan folk music.

What’s Cooking This Week

I’ve been trying to figure out wtf to do with zucchini to make it taste good because people keep giving me zucchinis. It’s like they assume I’m vegan and thus like all vegetables.

Not true.

But, they are healthy by all accounts, so I’m experimenting with different ways to cook them to make them delicious.

This week, I’m going to explore these two recipes from Minimalist Baker.

Zucchini Fritters

Zucchini Boats (whatever the fuck that is)
